Welcome

DTweak is a complete arsenal of tools to enhance your computerÆs performance, responsiveness and stability. It will also protect your privacy by cleaning your computer and internet tracks and help you customize the look and feel of your Windows.

DTweak is very user friendly and requires no technical knowledge or special skills to change Windows settings. Designed for beginners, it will also serve well for power users who can tweak many advanced parameters, such as CPU cache or I/O Cache Memory.

The program supports Microsoft Windows Vista. However, it runs well on Microsoft Windows XP, provided that you have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed on the computer.

Getting started

DTweak has a clear interface designed with Windows Explorer in mind. Therefore it will be easy for Windows users to familiarize themselves with the program. All tools and tweaks are organized into categories, which are shown in the left area of the program as a menu. The categories are Daily Tools, Tools, System, Optimizations, Customizations, and File.

Clicking on any of these categories opens a drop-down sub menu. For example, clicking on Daily Tools opens a menu with frequently used tools, such as Registry Cleaner, Disk Cleaner, Disk Defragmenter, etc. Another click on Daily Tools closes this menu.

Clicking on the item in the sub menu opens a window in the right area of the interface. It contains the options you can tweak. The navigation is the same as in Windows Explorer.

The program has a special module named System Messenger. It is in the lower left corner of the main window. The module shows you recommendations and notifications.

For example, in the screenshot above, System Messenger tells you about the time you made the last system restore point and provides you with a tip on how often you should do it along with a quick link to the tweak that lets you make a restore point.

System Messenger may contain more than one message. In this case, you can view them all by clicking on Left and Right arrow icons. To hide messages in System Messenger, you must click on the Down arrow icon. When all messages are hidden, the program reminds you about this by showing ôSome messages are hiddenö notification.

DTweak main window has the following titlebar buttons: Minimize to Tray, Minimize to Taskbar, and Close. When you minimize DTweak to tray, the program keeps on running in the background and a small window of System Messenger pops up to display reminder messages.

Daily tools

Registry Cleaner

Registry Cleaner scans Windows registry for redundant entries and deletes them. This reduces the size of the registry and speeds up your system. Registry Cleaner can also find and delete registry entries that can compromise your privacy and security.

Prior to registry scan, Registry Cleaner allows you to back up the registry in order to restore it later in case your registry cleaning brings unwanted results.

To make a backup file, click on Backup Registry.

To restore registry from a backup file, click Restore Registry and select the backup file you want to restore from the Open dialog window.

By default, Registry Cleaner scans the registry for all types of redundant entries. This includes ActiveX, DLL, COM objects, Add / Remove program entries, file types and extensions, shared files and assemblies, applications and invalid paths, font files and help files. But you can also select the entries you need to scan and exclude those you donÆt need.

To exclude the entries from scan, uncheck them

There is one more parameter that can be customized. ItÆs called Scan in parallel. If it is checked, then DTweak scans all types of entries simultaneously. If it is unchecked, the program scans the groups of entries one after another.

Once the parameters of the scan are all set, you can scan the registry.

To start registry scan, click Start Scan.

While the scan is on, you can see the details of found entries by clicking on Details located against each group of registry entries.

Once the scan is over, you can view the details of each group of found entries and uncheck those entries you donÆt want to erase. Then, you can erase each group of invalid entries selectively or all together by clicking on Clean all invalid entries.

Windows Registry is optimized for faster running.

Disk Cleaner

Disk Cleaner scans the computer drive(s) and deletes redundant files. This frees up valuable disk space. By default, Disk Cleaner will scan all drives and search for all types of redundant files, including invalid shortcuts, invalid Start Menu entries, temporary files and folders, invalid Program Files directories and empty files. However you can customize scan parameters and select the drive to scan and the files to search for.

To unselect the drive, click on the drive to uncheck it.

To customize search parameters, click Options and in the popup window, check those files you want to search for.

Once the parameters of the search are set, click Start Scan.

Disk Cleaner displays the results of the search in real time while the scan is on. Once the scan is over, you can view the details of found files and select those files you want to delete.

To view the details of found files, click Details displayed against each drive and uncheck those files you donÆt want to delete.

To delete all invalid items, click Clean all invalid items.

Now your computer drives have more free space.

### Back to menu

Disk Defragmenter

Disk Defragmenter defragments the computer drive(s) safely in order to speed up computer performance and erase errors. By default, Disk Defragmenter defrags all drives it detects in your machine. However you can unselect the drive you donÆt want to defragment.

To unselect the drive, uncheck the disk icon in Disk Defragmenter.

To start defragmentation, click on Defragment.

### Back to menu

Registry Defragmenter

Registry Defragmenter defragments Windows registry for optimal performance. By default, Registry Defragmenter defragments all sections of the registry. However you can select the sections you want to scan on your own.

To unselect sections, uncheck the sections you want to keep as they are.

To start defragmentation, click on Start Scan.

Hard Drives Monitor

Hard Drives Monitor shows you the detailed information about the health, performance, total work time, and drive temperature of your computer. This will help you be notified about developing problems before they cause any damage to the hard drive and you lose its data. The information is based on the SMART properties of the drives.

The program provides you with an opportunity to customize some options.

For example, you can set the program to show temperature in Fahrenheit, rather than Celsius. You can set your own refresh interval for the displayed data in seconds, set the critical health mark in percents, set the critical performance mark when the program shows critical performance alerts and specify critical temperature when the program displays its critical temperature alert. The default settings are fine, and itÆs recommended that you do not change them unless you are an experienced user and know what you are doing.

To set your own hard drive monitor preferences, click Options and set your own data.
